Here are some of the cancellations / postponements for this week and beyond:
You are advised to contact organizers of events they had planned to attend to verify if the event has been canceled or not.
Canton Village Mayor Michael Dalton and Canton Town Supervisor Mary Ann Ashley announced that effective today, the Canton Municipal Building at 60 Main Street will be closed through at least Tuesday, March 31.
Municipal business may be transacted via phone and email. A dropbox for utility payments, etc., is available inside the main front door of the municipal building, which remains open at all times. Provisions will be made for making payments online; allowances are being explored for waiving related fees.
Canton Town Court will be closed until April 15 at 1:30 p.m. Notices will be mailed. The court office will remain open at this time.
The Town of Stockholm Supervisor is hereby declaring a State of Emergency in the Town of Stockholm effective at noon today, March 17, 2020 and continuing in effect for a period not to exceed (30) days and ending at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2020 at 4:00 PM.
In an effort to safeguard Stockholm residents and town employees, the Courthouse and Town Hall will be closed to the public effective today at noon. Town employees will report to work to answer calls from members of the public. Payments and documents can be sent via US Mail or dropped in our drop box located outside the Town Hall building. Tax payments due on March 31, 2020 should be sent via US Mail or dropped in our drop box.
The Rotary Club of Potsdam has postponed its annual scholarship gala to benefit BOCES Seaway Tech programs. The Midnight Masquerade Gala fundraiser will now be held on Saturday, June 13, at the Elks Lodge in Potsdam.
The Massena Chamber of Commerce’s annual luncheon has been postponed until further notice, due to concerns with the COVID-19 (Coronavirus). If you RSVPed and were not contacted, call 315-769-3525 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Ogdensburg Knights of Columbus Monday Night Bingo and Friday Night Fish Fry are canceled until April 1. The organization will reevaluate the situation at that time.
The Massena Volunteer Fire Department has made the decision to cancel its upcoming chicken barbecue on Saturday, March 21.
Effective immediately all upcoming events and uses of the community room at the Colton Fire Station are canceled until April 20 to avoid exposure to Covid-19 by volunteers who must respond to emergency calls.
The Wednesday Free Meal at Canton United Methodist Church, 41 Court St., will be take out only until further notice. Meals can be picked up at the church from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Call 315-386-4500 for more information.
The Robert J Freego Amvets Post 282 in Potsdam will close until further notice.
The Madrid Park Community Building has been closed by order of the town, and all events scheduled there have been cancelled including the mini wedding expo planned for Sunday, March 22.
The Active Shooter Training classes in Canton on March 30th have been cancelled, and will be rescheduled at a later date.
Bishop Terry LaValley, of the Diocese of Ogdensburg, announced that due to the Coronavirus, all public gatherings for Mass, prayer, faith formation and certain parish activities in the Diocese of Ogdensburg are suspended until further notice. Bishop LaValley has dispensed all Catholic parishioners from the obligation to participate at Sunday Mass.
Massena Public Library is closed to the public. The library encourages patrons to utilize its ebook and online resources available on the Massena Public Library website.
The TAUNY Center and North Country Folkstore will be closed at least until the end of March, and all programs will be postponed. Check tauny.org and/or follow us on Facebook and Instagram (where we'll be posting regularly) for updates and other online resources the organization will be sharing.
The Nicandri Nature Center is now closed until March 31, but children can get a daily dose of nature by accessing their site from home, says their Facebook page.

The Robert J Freego Amvets Post 282 has cancelled their St. Patrick’s Day dinner on Tuesday, March 17th.
St. Philips Episcopal Church’s monthly community lunch scheduled for Thursday, March 19th has been cancelled, and their Common Cents thrift store is closed until at least April 1st.
The Orchestra of Northern New York’s concerts set for Saturday, March 21, at SUNY Potsdam’s Hosmer Hall, and Sunday, March 22, in Watertown have been cancelled, as well as the concerts set for April 18th and 19th at Jefferson Community College, and SUNY Potsdam.
The Parishville Sportsmen’s Club Gun Show scheduled for March 21-22 has been cancelled
The Ogdesnburg Boys and Girls Club Expo March 27th-29th has been cancelled.
Out of an abundance of caution, the New York State Maple Producers Association has decided to cancel the 2020 NYS Maple Weekend. This 25th anniversary festival was scheduled for March 21-22 and March 28-29 at 187 different locations across NYS. Individual sugarhouses will continue to produce, stock and market their excellent crop of Maple Products. Please contact them directly to order your favorite maple products.
The Canton-Potsdam Hospital Guild’s Lifestyle & Wellness Day scheduled for March 28th at the Trillium Wellness Center has been cancelled.
The Canton Knights Of Columbus has cancelled their Monday Night Bingo event from now through at least March 30th.
The Chasing the Dragon event on March 31st at SUNY Potsdam has been cancelled
The Two Rivers Ecumenical Council is cancelling the Lenten Lunches on March 18th, March 25th, and April 1st at St. Patrick’s Hall in Colton.
The Ogdensburg Public Library has cancelled their Music in Movement, Story Time, and movie night programs until April.
The Canton Free Library, as well as branch libraries in Rensselaer Falls and Morley are closed now through April 20th. Book drops will be open, but borrowers will not be charged late fees if they chose to keep items until the libraries reopen.
The Potsdam Public Library will be closed starting Tuesday, March 17th until further notice.
The Heuvelton Free Library will be closed until April 20th.
The North Country Children’s Museum will be closed to the public until at least April 1.
The North Country Sustainability Day and Green Living Fair set for Friday, April 3rd, and Saturday, April 4th has been cancelled.
The Canton Chamber of Commerce has cancelled the annual Peter Rabbit in the Park that was scheduled for April 4th.
In light of all local closures including public school, SLC Arts has cancelled all upcoming programs through the end of April, including the Special Arts for Special Needs classes.
Aldis in Potsdam is closed until further notice. Aldis in Massena, Ogdensburg, and Malone remain open.
Super Walmarts and Price Choppers usually open 24-hours across the area are now operating on limited hours from 6 am – 11 pm daily.
Canton United Methodist Church’s Wednesday free meal will be served as Take-Out only until further notice.
The Potsdam Humane Society will be closed from Monday, March 16th through at least March 31st to the public and volunteers.
St. Lawrence County Office for the Aging is temporarily closing all congregate dining centers for the next few weeks. All home delivered meal clients will continue to have meals delivered. Congregate clients will be contacted by Office for the Aging staff to discuss their food options.
Visitation at the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility has been suspended for a minimum of 30 days to safeguard inmates and staff. Clergy and attorneys needing access to parishioners or clients should call 315-379-2367 to arrange appointments, which will be at the discretion of the Sheriff.
The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision announced Saturday visitation at facilities statewide has been suspended. The suspension of visitation begins Saturday March 14th at 5 p.m. and will last until April 11th.
